HUGH M MORGAN AC
Chairman – Advisory Board

Hugh Morgan has a long and distinguished career in the resource industry. Commencing in 1965 with North Broken Hill Ltd he has spent over 40 years in the mining industry and rose to become Chief Executive Officer of WMC Limited. He was a Director of Alcoa of Australia for over 20 years, a Director of Alcoa Inc from 1998 to 2001 and an advisor to both Lafarge International and Anglo American Plc (Aus). In addition he was involved with Central Norseman Gold Corp, BH South Ltd along with The Uranium Institute (Director), the Australian Lead & Zinc Development Corporation (Chair), The World Gold Council (Director and Chairman) and the Silver Institute. He has also been a member of the Australian DFAT Foreign Affairs Council, South Australian Minerals and Petroleum Expert Group and has been extensively involved with the Minerals Council of Australia.

He was a Director of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia for 14 years and was a past President of the Business Council of Australia.

Hugh is a past chairman of the International Council on Metals and the Environment (the predecessor to ICMM) and was an Executive Committee Member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Business Development.



CAMPBELL OLSEN
Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Campbell Olsen has had a long career in Private Equity and operational management in the mining industry. He has deep experience in international private equity practice and process having spent several years as an Investment Manager with Nomura Jafco and then General Manager (Australasia) with Advent International, a Boston-based multi-billion dollar international private equity company.

Campbell is a Director of North Stawell Minerals (ASX:NSM), South Stawell Gold, SUPL (Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory). He also holds an Advisory Board Member role at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics.

Campbell is actively involved in all investments made by Arete.

Campbell holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from Melbourne Business School.



KEVIN LAM
Chief Operating Officer

Kevin Lam has a combined 30 years of work in Private Equity/Venture Capital, in Leveraged buyouts, Investment Banking in the United States and ASEAN. He started his investment banking career with Citicorp Investment Bank in New York where he worked with private equity sponsors in financing leveraged buyouts, leveraged recapitalisations and acquisitions.

Kevin worked in corporate advisory and mergers and acquisitions at Citicorp. His experience in Asia Pacific started with Nomura Jafco, the Private Equity & Venture Capital subsidiary of Jafco Ventures, Japan’s largest PE firm. His role at Nomura Jafco involved regional PE/VC investments, roll-up investments, public listing and divestment of portfolio companies. Post Jafco, Kevin co-founded IncuVest Pte Ltd., a Government of Singapore
sponsored incubator/venture capital fund that specialized in early stage IT and bioscience investments. He holds an MBA from University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science double major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California.



STEPHEN JEFFERS

Stephen has had a 30+ year career in the mining industry specialising in operational management and turning around troubled mines. He has spent over 25 years holding Manager and General Manager level roles of underground and open pit mining operations, in both residential and remote settings.

Stephen has worked on gold, nickel sulphide, nickel laterite, copper, uranium, zinc, lead and silver projects. In particular, he has held Chief Operating Officer and General Manager positions with Norilsk Nickel Australia, and General Manager positions with Mincor Resources, Kingsgate Consolidated and LionGold Corp. He also serves on the Victorian Council of the Minerals Council of Australia.

Mr Jeffers holds a degree in Mining Engineering from the Ballarat College of Advanced Education and a First-Class Underground Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) with over 35 years of continuous membership.



BILL REID

Bill is an exploration geologist with 25 years’ experience in Australia, Canada and West Africa, principally for gold and base metals. Experience includes field, operational and management roles focussed on generative through in-mine exploration projects – with junior through major companies. He has also worked in consulting, project assessment and as a survey geologist, in regional mapping and metal-systems geology.

Bill has a B.Sc (Geology) from Sydney University. He is the current chair of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) Victorian Committee. Bill started with Plutonic Operations and BHP. More recent experience includes positions at Castlemaine Goldfields, North Stawell Minerals, RSCMME and the GSNSW. He has spent the last six years working on Victorian Narrow Vein Gold systems.



CHRIS TROTT

Chris’ background is in management consulting, project management, governance and risk.

Previous roles include; General Manager of IT & eBusiness ANZIIF, MD of Technology Risk Management Solutions, and Manager of Business Systems at ANZ Private bank. He is currently on secondment as the Commercial Manager for Stawell Gold Mines.



PETER JOHNSTON
Senior Advisor

Peter Johnston is a senior international mining executive, having recently retired as Head of Global Nickel Assets for Glencore, where he was responsible for mine operations and processing facilities in Australia,Canada, New Caledonia and Norway. Peter was previously Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Minara Resources Limited, Executive General Manager of Western Mining Corporation’s nickel and gold divisions, Olympic Dam operations, Queensland Fertilisers business and human resource’s function. Peter has
also held senior executive roles with Alcoa of Australia Limited. Peter has had a long and industrious career with over 35 years of experience, building up his extensive operations and development experience with major Australian and New Zealand Resources and Industrial companies.

Peter is currently Chairman of Jervois Global Ltd, has previously been Chairman of the Minerals Council of Australia, Chairman of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia, Vice President of the Australian Mines and Metals Association and President of the Nickel Institute.

Peter is a Director of US-based Tronox Limited, with previous Directorships of Minara Resources Limited, Silver Lake Resources Limited, Emeco Holdings Ltd and Central Norseman Gold Corporation Ltd and NRW Ltd.



GAVAN COLLERY OAM
Senior Advisor

Gavan Collery has worked as a Corporate and Regulatory Affairs specialist in the Australian and offshore minerals industry for more than 30 years. Prior to establishing his own consultancy in early 2015, he worked for a decade with ASX-listed Indophil Resources and prior to that worked for almost 15 years with Western Mining Corporation (WMC).

Gavan has a broad involvement in the minerals industry, with an emphasis on greenfield and brownfield minerals development, and related interactions with government, investors, media and community. Gavan is the founder of the Steering Committee for what has become one of the world’s highest profile forums for minerals discussion, the Melbourne Mining Club. Gavan’s professional background began in mainstream journalism. He is the recipient of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to the mineral industry.



Shaun

SHAUN TREACY
Senior Advisor

Shaun has over 30 years’ experience in corporate finance and investment banking with roles in the United States, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Australia. He has previously been a senior investment banker with JPMorgan, Lehman Brothers, Nomura and UBS. Shaun is currently on the board of a number of public and private companies in Australia and the United Kingdom and is a Senior Advisor to a broad range of companies in the corporate advisory, private equity and corporate sectors. Shaun is also active in various not for profit organisations with Board or Advisory Board positions with Multiple Sclerosis (Qld), Multiple Sclerosis (Australia), The Global Foundation and the University of Queensland.


Shaun has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland, is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.



DOUG ROEM
Senior Advisor

Doug Roem is a seasoned private equity, turnaround and restructuring professional.  His Private Equity experience extends to investor, director and investee executive at CHAMP, Hastings and the Victor Smorgon Group.  Doug has extensive international capability working with businesses in USA, SE Asia and China.

Doug holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from Melbourne University, a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from UNSW, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Finance from the Securities Institute of Australia, and a MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.  He is also a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia and a Member of the Turnaround Management Association.
